OP/EN 2 - 'what would you give?'

Once again, each part is dedicated to one of the elements that make up a normal service – preparation, confession, God’s word, prayer, sending out - with images, words, activities and music available to help us do or experience these things.

Confession

In front of you is some sand.  Press your hands into it.  Sit back and look at the impression that your hands have made.  Reflect on the impression that you leave on the world around you - the positive and negative that you have impacted this last week.  As you think of the negative things we invite you to smooth out your handprints, to symbolise the way that God forgives and wipes out our wrongdoing.

The Kingdom of God is like...

yeast
that a woman works into
   the dough
for dozens of loaves
of barley bread
and waits
while the dough rises

a pine nut
that a farmer plants.
It is quite small
as seeds go,
but in the course of years it grows into
a huge pine tree,
and eagles rest in it

a treasure
hidden in a field for years and then
   accidentally found by a trespasser.
The finder is ecstatic—what a find! -
and proceeds
to sell everything he owns to raise money
to buy that field

What is your greatest treasure?

What would you give up for everything?

Prayer

  This week... local, nationalinternational

Sending out

"If I could tell the world just one thing / It would be that we're all OK

And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful / And useless in times like these

I won't be made useless / I won't be idle with despair

I will gather myself around my faith / For light does the darkness most fear

My hands are small, I know / But they're not yours, they are my own

And I am never broken..."    - Jewel - 'Hands'
