OP/EN 7 - 'your kingdom come...'

Our Father in heaven:
May your holy name be honoured;
may your Kingdom come;
may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today the food we need.
Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.
Do not bring us to hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever.

Amen.

Forgive us our sins...

When we catch a glimpse of God – who is perfect – we

become more aware of how imperfect we are and how imperfect other

people are, too.

We all make mistakes and hurt each other.

Feelings of guilt and feelings of hurt both prevent us from being

peaceful. They stop us from being able to love generously.

Take time to think through the day/week/month/year and remember

anything you regret
… and talk to God about it.

You might like to write a letter to God, or to someone you have hurt in anyway…
… and you can burn it and move on.

God can forgive you anything and set you free from guilt and shame.

The Kingdom

It's a long way off, but inside it there are quite different things going on:

“Festivals at which the poor man is king and the consumptive is healed.....”

Some ideas about kingdom
• A number of writers talk about their own kingdoms, though places they’ve travelled around, communities they’ve grown up in and their experiences in the societies in which they live.
• Think about and write down some of your ideas of what our ‘kingdom’ is like, or could be like...

“Mirrors in which the blind look at themselves and love looks at them back...”

Mirrors and reflections
• Look at your reflection in the mirror or on the computer screen.
• Think about yourself... who you are and your place in the world.

“Industry is for mending the bent bones and the minds fractured by life...”

A short film about Suba, Martha, Hassan and you
• 10-minute documentary made by Save The Children before Christmas.  The film demonstrates what difference the money they are given can made to the lives of people in crisis around the world.

“...admission is free, if you will purge yourself of desire and present yourself with your need only and the simple offering of your faith”

• What one thing would you like Christ Church to do for the people
in the community of Gipsy Hill?
• What areas would you like to see Christ Church getting involved with?
• What could Christ Church do to alleviate poverty?
• What could Christ Church do to help build bridges people of other faiths?

Give us today our daily bread...

So often in today’s world we think that we have to solve everything ourselves, that if only we tried more, did more, were more, everything could be solved.

…But the bald fact is that that can never be the case; so much in the world, in our communities, in our lives is just too big and complex for us to sort alone.

…but we don’t have to. Each day God is there to give us what we need so that together we can make a difference, together we can begin to climb the mountain of need that surrounds us.

Tonight we invite you to spend time with God asking for his help in areas of need that you are aware of internationally, nationally, locally or personally…
